How We Trim

No spikes on trims

Spikes wound the inner-growth layers of the tree and expose it to disease. Over time, they leave scars that aren't ideal aesthetically too. Spikes only make sense for a tree that is being removed, not for one we want to stay healthy and beautiful. When a Highlandville property doesn't give our bucket truck a clean angle, our crew is well-trained in SRT or DRT methodologies.

A branch that could hit something gets lowered instead of dropped

Our work is physics-heavy work. When branches can't be dropped because of the canopy below or even more importantly, your home, we use ropes, pulleys, and friction devices to safely lower the branches. If you get a chance to stop and watch the crew (at a safe distance!) the work they do is fascinating.

Quality-focused in every aspect

Customer satisfaction is so important because it means we did a good job. We want to leave the job site knowing that we’re leaving behind excellent work. For us, professionalism means that from the first time a customer reaches out to us to the sign-off and beyond, the process has been relatively smooth, understandable, and enjoyable.

The cleanup

As a default, the job isn't finished until the yard is cleared and everything is hauled off. It's heavy work we do, so it's hard to leave it perfect, but we do try to leave it better than how we found it. What you can expect is all the brush hauled off, and then the twigs and leaves raked up behind it.
Our process

How We Remove

Tree removals have a different goal

Since the goal of a tree removal is not the continued health of the tree, the focus becomes how to most efficiently remove the tree and all the material from your property with the minimal amount of upheaval. In the most difficult of situations, that means avoiding service lines, fences, sheds, and even houses.

Counting the costs for tree removal

You can rest easy knowing that every estimate takes into account all the information with the intention of providing a fair and honest price for your job. What that means is that we are taking into account the factors that most move the price:
  • The size and location of the trees
  • How many obstacles we are working around
  • Tools and equipment needed to effectively finish the job

Equipment necessary for a job well done

Highlandville’s residential lots don’t leave much margin for error. We use a variety of equipment, from smaller bucket trucks that can get into a tight spot to cranes that help us remove that tree in an impossible spot.

Nothing left behind

Our default approach is to remove everything, including the wood, the brush, and all the debris. Of course, if you're interested in firewood, you can even save a little bit by requesting to keep the wood. Once all that's out of the way, then you get to decide whether you want the stump ground down right away, which is the most cost-effective way to approach it. We’ll fill the hole left with soil or chips on request.

Why a Tree Company’s Insurance Matters to You

Tree work is dangerous, and it happens on your property. If something goes wrong, whose insurance pays depends on the company you hired.

  • Liability insurance covers damage if a limb or tree lands on your house, fence, car or your neighbor’s property. Without it, you may end up filing the claim on your own policy, or paying out of pocket.
  • Workers’ compensation pays medical bills and lost wages if a crew member is hurt on your property. If an uninsured worker gets hurt, you could be the one facing the bills.

Before you hire anyone, ask for a certificate of insurance, and check that it covers both. Trufast carries $5M in coverage, including workers’ compensation, and we’re glad to send our certificate with your estimate.

Two Rivers Run Through the County

Highlandville sits in the hill country of Christian County, south of Springfield — the name itself is a nod to the elevation, and the terrain shapes almost every job we take out there. A few real things about the area worth knowing.

Named for its elevation, and it shows

Highlandville was named for its high ground, and the hilly, undulating terrain typical of Christian County is still the defining feature of the area. Sloped lots are the norm out there, not the exception, which changes how we plan rigging, drop zones, and cleanup — a removal that looks straightforward on flat ground can take longer once a hillside is factored in.

James River and White River watershed

Christian County is drained by the James River and branches of the White River, and a lot of properties in and around Highlandville back up to creek bottoms or drainage draws rather than flat open yard. Trees growing in that kind of ground often have different root structure and stability than trees on drier upland lots — it’s part of what a real hazard assessment near water has to account for, not just tree size and species, but what’s happening underground and how the ground drains.

Extended tier, despite sitting close to our core area

Highlandville sits just past Ozark, a town closer to Springfield that we’re out in constantly. But the drive time to Highlandville itself tips it into our extended service tier at about 35 minutes. It’s a good example of how our service-area tiers are built around real drive time and scheduling capacity, not distance as the crow flies.

Why technique and timing both matter

How you trim a tree affects how well a tree grows over time. Improper trimming and broken branches left to rot can result in the untimely death of the tree. Most often we are brought in to trim trees that are at least fifteen years old. These can require climbing when we cannot access them with a bucket truck.

On hedge and shrub trimming

Pruning trees and hedges is known to generate a positive environment that homeowners love. This is just one of the many tree services we offer that we’ve seen attract positive attention from the surrounding community. By working with our team, your home will become an impressive staple in the neighborhood.

What goes into an estimate

All estimates are in-person and on-site because it has shown over the years to be so very difficult to make sure we are in agreement about what it is to do without walking through the property and talking with our customers. In that walkthrough, we will be listing how many trees there are that need some sort of service, whether trimming or removal, and how many obstacles we have to work around, like power lines or fencing. The size of the tree, how much we're doing to every tree, how much wood has to be removed, and how difficult it is to move the brush and wood out of the property all play a part in the ultimate estimate.

Questions

Tree service in Highlandville, answered.

Do you serve Highlandville, or is it too far from Springfield?
Yes. Highlandville is about 35 minutes from our Springfield shop. We serve it as capacity allows, and the office confirms the details on the call, before anything is booked.
Do you charge extra to come out to Highlandville?
Sometimes. Depending on our estimating schedule, an on-site estimate this far out can carry a small trip fee. When our estimator already has work nearby, there often isn't one. Either way, the office tells you on the call, before anything is booked.
How much does tree removal cost in Highlandville?
Every tree is different — size, species, location, and access all affect price. We say that pricing starts in the low hundreds and goes into the thousands, but we know that isn't very helpful. And this is exactly why we give an on-site estimate before any work starts.
Are you insured for work in Highlandville?
Yes. Trufast carries a $5M liability tower ($1M general liability + $4M umbrella), plus commercial auto and workers’ compensation. We’re happy to share certificates of insurance before work begins.
Does bad trimming actually hurt a tree?
Yes — this is a real thing homeowners underestimate. Improper cuts and storm-broken branches left untreated can shorten even a healthy tree’s life. We trim for the tree’s long-term health, not just a neater-looking yard.
