How We Trim

No spikes on trims

Spikes wound the inner-growth layers of the tree and expose it to disease. Over time, they leave scars that aren't ideal aesthetically too. Spikes only make sense for a tree that is being removed, not for one we want to stay healthy and beautiful. When a Strafford property doesn't give our bucket truck a clean angle, our crew is well-trained in SRT or DRT methodologies.

A branch that could hit something gets lowered instead of dropped

Our work is physics-heavy work. When branches can't be dropped because of the canopy below or even more importantly, your home, we use ropes, pulleys, and friction devices to safely lower the branches. If you get a chance to stop and watch the crew (at a safe distance!) the work they do is fascinating.

Quality-focused in every aspect

Customer satisfaction is so important because it means we did a good job. We want to leave the job site knowing that we’re leaving behind excellent work. For us, professionalism means that from the first time a customer reaches out to us to the sign-off and beyond, the process has been relatively smooth, understandable, and enjoyable.

The cleanup

As a default, the job isn't finished until the yard is cleared and everything is hauled off. It's heavy work we do, so it's hard to leave it perfect, but we do try to leave it better than how we found it. What you can expect is all the brush hauled off, and then the twigs and leaves raked up behind it.
Our process

How We Remove

Tree removals have a different goal

Since the goal of a tree removal is not the continued health of the tree, the focus becomes how to most efficiently remove the tree and all the material from your property with the minimal amount of upheaval. In the most difficult of situations, that means avoiding service lines, fences, sheds, and even houses.

Counting the costs for tree removal

You can rest easy knowing that every free estimate takes into account all the information with the intention of providing a fair and honest price for your job. What that means is that we are taking into account the factors that most move the price:
  • The size and location of the trees
  • How many obstacles we are working around
  • Tools and equipment needed to effectively finish the job

Equipment necessary for a job well done

Strafford’s residential lots don’t leave much margin for error. We use a variety of equipment, from smaller bucket trucks that can get into a tight spot to cranes that help us remove that tree in an impossible spot.

Nothing left behind

Our default approach is to remove everything, including the wood, the brush, and all the debris. Of course, if you're interested in firewood, you can even save a little bit by requesting to keep the wood. Once all that's out of the way, then you get to decide whether you want the stump ground down right away, which is the most cost-effective way to approach it. We’ll fill the hole left with soil or chips on request.

Tree care in Strafford

Not Every Storm-Damaged Tree Has to Be Cut Down

Strafford sees its share of storms. After one damages your tree, that big limb in the yard can make the whole tree look like it is beyond repair. A tree can lose a few branches and still recover with the right care. What decides the outcome is exactly what got damaged and how well it gets trimmed up afterwards.

When we are assessing a storm-damaged tree, the first thing we check is the trunk. A split trunk means the tree has lost most of its strength, and even if it leafs out again, it shouldn’t stay near a house or sidewalk.

The second important consideration is the roots. Strong wind can tilt a tree and partly lift its roots. Once the wind has gone, it can settle back and look mostly normal at its base. Cracked soil, movement at the base, or roots sitting higher than they should are the signs that the roots are damaged and most likely the tree is compromised, especially if it is endangering property.

If the trunk and roots are solid and it's just broken branches, we can most often trim those in such a way that the tree will mostly heal itself. It isn't recommended to wait a long time, though, since the tree will start to heal right away, and it won't heal a shattered branch properly as it needs a nice, neat, clean cut.

A big limb torn off a multi-trunk tree in a storm and lying across the lawn, while the rest of the tree still stands.
What customers across our service area say — NOT a Strafford-tagged job

“They were here with their equipment around mid morning started on job immediately they took down two big Bradford pear trees. They were located between our house and the neighbors one was close to power lines. Did an excellent job on clean up. I was very pleased.”

Down the Interstate, Not Out of the Way

Trufast is based in Springfield, about twenty minutes from Strafford along the I-44 corridor. Strafford is one of the 17 southwest Missouri communities we cover, and that corridor location means a predictable drive for us — close enough that an estimate here isn't a special trip, just part of the route.

Trufast stays owner-operated, with no handoff in between and no subcontractor standing in. And when a tree needs a trained arborist's read rather than just a trim, that's our ISA Certified Arborist making the call.

Which Main Street Did You Mean?

Strafford’s spot on the old Route 66 corridor, right where it runs alongside I-44 east of Springfield, gives it a different character than most of our service area. A few real things about the town worth knowing if you’re deciding who to call.

On the Route 66 / I-44 corridor

Strafford formed along Route 66, which was one of the most traveled and famous roads in the country. While I-44 is the east-west freeway, which is used now, the old Route 66 runs close to I-44 between Strafford and Springfield. Strafford is a quick 15-minute drive from our yard, where we keep all of our trucks and equipment, and as a result, has been a place where we have developed a lot of service relationships.

Older in-town lots and open county acreage, side by side

Strafford isn't the only town that grew up along this highway corridor, and it fits the profile of towns that formed around and were settled by folks who found them on the historic Route 66 back when it was bustling. Like many towns like this, it has a real mix of tight, in-town lots with old shade trees that quickly fade into farm and forest on the outskirts with open tree lines, fencerows, and dense deciduous forest. While we are typically working closer to houses where the trees endanger structures, backyard fences, and the like, we still do have jobs where we are cleaning up a fence line, tearing out a fence that's been overgrown with trees and the like. We quote every job in person, tailored to what our customers are needing.

Two front doors

Downtown Strafford was built facing Pine Street, the old main road. Then in 1926 Route 66 came through on the other side of the businesses, and by 1930 it was paved. Rather than miss out on the new highway traffic, some shops turned around to face Route 66, and others simply added a second front door. That's how Strafford ended up with two main streets. You can read more of the town's story on the City of Strafford's history page. And if you've got kids, Wild Animal Safari just outside town has been a local favorite since 1951.

Why technique and timing both matter

How you trim a tree affects how well a tree grows over time. Improper trimming and broken branches left to rot can result in the untimely death of the tree. Most often we are brought in to trim trees that are at least fifteen years old. These can require climbing when we cannot access them with a bucket truck.

What goes into an estimate

In the estimate walkthrough, we will be listing how many trees there are that need some sort of service, whether trimming or removal, and how many obstacles we have to work around, like power lines or fencing. The size of the tree, how much we're doing to every tree, how much wood has to be removed, and how difficult it is to move the brush and wood out of the property all play a part in the ultimate estimate.

Questions

Tree service in Strafford, answered.

How much does tree removal cost near Strafford?
Every tree is different — size, species, location, and access all affect price. We say that pricing starts in the low hundreds and goes into the thousands, but we know that isn't very helpful. And this is exactly why we give a free on-site estimate before any work starts.
Are you insured for work in Strafford?
Yes. Trufast carries a $5M liability tower ($1M general liability + $4M umbrella), plus commercial auto and workers’ compensation. We’ll share certificates via email along with your estimate.
How many reviews does Trufast have?
500+ Google reviews at a 4.9-star average, as of this writing.
Do you have a certified arborist on staff?
Yes. Luke Smith has guided our tree care since the company started in 2017, and he has been an ISA Certified Arborist since 2021. He's the one to ask about a tree's health, not just whether it should come down.
How far is Strafford from your shop?
About 15-20 minutes from our Springfield base.
