How We Trim

No spikes on trims

Spikes wound the inner-growth layers of the tree and expose it to disease. Over time, they leave scars that aren't ideal aesthetically too. Spikes only make sense for a tree that is being removed, not for one we want to stay healthy and beautiful. When a Republic property doesn't give our bucket truck a clean angle, our crew is well-trained in SRT or DRT methodologies.

A branch that could hit something gets lowered instead of dropped

Our work is physics-heavy work. When branches can't be dropped because of the canopy below or even more importantly, your home, we use ropes, pulleys, and friction devices to safely lower the branches. If you get a chance to stop and watch the crew (at a safe distance!) the work they do is fascinating.

Quality-focused in every aspect

Customer satisfaction is so important because it means we did a good job. We want to leave the job site knowing that we’re leaving behind excellent work. For us, professionalism means that from the first time a customer reaches out to us to the sign-off and beyond, the process has been relatively smooth, understandable, and enjoyable.

The cleanup

As a default, the job isn't finished until the yard is cleared and everything is hauled off. It's heavy work we do, so it's hard to leave it perfect, but we do try to leave it better than how we found it. What you can expect is all the brush hauled off, and then the twigs and leaves raked up behind it.
Our process

How We Remove

Tree removals have a different goal

Since the goal of a tree removal is not the continued health of the tree, the focus becomes how to most efficiently remove the tree and all the material from your property with the minimal amount of upheaval. In the most difficult of situations, that means avoiding service lines, fences, sheds, and even houses.

Counting the costs for tree removal

You can rest easy knowing that every free estimate takes into account all the information with the intention of providing a fair and honest price for your job. What that means is that we are taking into account the factors that most move the price:
  • The size and location of the trees
  • How many obstacles we are working around
  • Tools and equipment needed to effectively finish the job

Equipment necessary for a job well done

Republic’s residential lots don’t leave much margin for error. We use a variety of equipment, from smaller bucket trucks that can get into a tight spot to cranes that help us remove that tree in an impossible spot.

Nothing left behind

Our default approach is to remove everything, including the wood, the brush, and all the debris. Of course, if you're interested in firewood, you can even save a little bit by requesting to keep the wood. Once all that's out of the way, then you get to decide whether you want the stump ground down right away, which is the most cost-effective way to approach it. We’ll fill the hole left with soil or chips on request.

Tree care in Republic

Planting the Right Tree in the Right Spot

A lot of the work we do in Republic's newer subdivisions traces back to one decision made years earlier: where a tree went in. A maple planted three feet off the corner of the house looks fine for the first ten years. Then the limbs are in the gutter, the roots are under the driveway, and the only fix left is a big trim every couple of years or taking it out.

Before you plant, think about how big the tree will be in twenty-five years rather than how big it is in the pot. A few rules of thumb we give homeowners:

  • Small trees (redbud, dogwood, Japanese maple and others that stay under about 25 feet): at least 10 to 15 feet from the house.
  • Large shade trees (oaks, maples, sycamores): 20 feet or more from the house, farther on the side storms usually blow in from, and well away from the driveway and the sewer line.
  • Overhead lines: only small trees under them. Anything that will top 25 feet belongs somewhere else.
  • Bradford pears: skip them. They grow fast, split apart in wind and ice, and we take a lot of them out, in Republic and everywhere else we work.

If a tree is already too close, it doesn't always have to go. Raising and thinning it, or pruning it back off the roof, can buy years. Our certified arborist can tell you which ones are worth keeping and which ones are going to keep costing you.

What customers across our service area say — NOT a Republic-tagged job

“Expertly done large two tree removal at fence line. They used professional equipment to take trees down in pieces, so no damage to yard or fence. They left the site spotless and willingly left firewood I asked for and even stacked it! I would highly recommend Trufast Tree Service.”

Cleared off the foundation

Everything growing against the house came out, so the siding can dry and nothing is climbing under it.

One of Missouri's Fastest-Growing Towns

Republic has added thousands of new residents over the last decade, but it hasn't lost track of where it came from. A bit more about the area below.

Growing fast

Republic grew by about a quarter between 2010 and 2020 and has kept climbing since, passing 21,000 people. It's now the second-largest city in Greene County. When Amazon opened its fulfillment center in Republic in 2021, it brought well over a thousand jobs, and a big demand for new housing came with them.

Near Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

Just outside town is Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, where the first major Civil War battle west of the Mississippi was fought in August 1861. The park protects more than 2,400 acres of that ground, with a five-mile tour road and the 1852 Ray House, and there's no entrance fee. From time to time, they have reenactments there, and especially on major anniversaries of the battle, these reenactments are incredible to behold.

Pumpkin Daze

Republic holds onto its small-town traditions too. Every fall since 1992, the town has thrown Pumpkin Daze at J.R. Martin Park. It started as a contest to see who could grow the biggest pumpkin, and winners have topped 1,200 pounds. Hundreds of craft and food vendors set up around the weigh-off, which makes it a must-attend for anyone in the area looking for a good time.

Twenty-five minutes from home

Republic is about 25 minutes from our main Springfield location. While it is on the outer edge of our core service area, it is still home territory for us, and we regularly serve customers all over Republic.

Trees on brand-new lots

A lot of Republic's newest homes came with a young tree or two the developer planted to improve curb appeal. The first few years have a lot of influence on how that tree grows up. A little structural pruning in those years, picking one strong leader and removing crossing branches, is quickly done and makes it far more likely the tree will grow tall and beautiful. Fixing the same problems on a 30-foot tree later is sometimes impossible, and certainly more expensive and risky for the tree. Check the young tree for stakes and ties, too. Builders often leave them on, and the wire can cut into the trunk as it grows, effectively girdling it.

When the builder saved the big tree

Preserving mature trees when building on a new lot is a good plan if you can pull it off, but construction is hard on trees. Heavy equipment packs the soil over the roots and smothers them to one degree or another. A utility trench cut too close to a tree will damage or destroy the roots on that side. We've seen a tall oak next to a brand-new home look healthy right up until the project was finished, and then all its leaves died. Sometimes one side of a tree dies off while the other side looks perfectly healthy. The damage doesn't always show right away, either. Compacted roots can decline slowly over the next few years. If your home was recently built next to an older tree, it's worth having our arborist take a look.

What goes into an estimate

All estimates are in-person and on-site because it has shown over the years to be so very difficult to make sure we are in agreement about what it is to do without walking through the property and talking with our customers. In that walkthrough, we will be listing how many trees there are that need some sort of service, whether trimming or removal, and how many obstacles we have to work around, like power lines or fencing. The size of the tree, how much we're doing to every tree, how much wood has to be removed, and how difficult it is to move the brush and wood out of the property all play a part in the ultimate estimate.

Questions

Tree service in Republic, answered.

How much does tree removal cost near Republic?
Every tree is different — size, species, location, and access all affect price. We say that pricing starts in the low hundreds and goes into the thousands, but we know that isn't very helpful. And this is exactly why we give a free on-site estimate before any work starts.
Are you insured for work in Republic?
Yes. Trufast carries a $5M liability tower ($1M general liability + $4M umbrella), plus commercial auto and workers’ compensation — coverage that protects you as the homeowner, not just us. We’ll share certificates before work begins.
How far is Republic from your shop?
About 25 minutes from our Springfield base. Same-day estimates are possible in an emergency or urgent situation, as the schedule allows.
Do you grind the stump after a removal?
Stump grinding is a separate service — typically 3–6 inches below grade, with wood chips or topsoil fill on request.
Do you handle storm damage in Republic?
Yes. Call (417) 413-4729 anytime for storm-damaged or hazardous trees; we’ll get back to you as soon as possible, usually the next morning if it’s overnight.
Do you also trim hedges and shrubs?
Yes — alongside tree work, we trim hedges and shrubs too, so you don’t need a separate company for both.
Do you remove dead or rotten branches?
Yes. Dead or rotten branches get removed as part of the job whenever we spot them, before they cause further damage to the tree or your property.
