We have done a lot of work in Battlefield, and even more in 2025 with the windstorm that blew so many trees over in Southwest Springfield and Battlefield. We have been careful to build a reputation of caring and excellence with our customers.

Our process

How We Trim

No spikes on trims

Spikes wound the inner-growth layers of the tree and expose it to disease. Over time, they leave scars that aren't ideal aesthetically too. Spikes only make sense for a tree that is being removed, not for one we want to stay healthy and beautiful. When a Battlefield property doesn't give our bucket truck a clean angle, our crew is well-trained in SRT or DRT methodologies.

A branch that could hit something gets lowered instead of dropped

Our work is physics-heavy work. When branches can't be dropped because of the canopy below or even more importantly, your home, we use ropes, pulleys, and friction devices to safely lower the branches. If you get a chance to stop and watch the crew (at a safe distance!) the work they do is fascinating.

Quality-focused in every aspect

Customer satisfaction is so important because it means we did a good job. We want to leave the job site knowing that we’re leaving behind excellent work. For us, professionalism means that from the first time a customer reaches out to us to the sign-off and beyond, the process has been relatively smooth, understandable, and enjoyable.

The cleanup

As a default, the job isn't finished until the yard is cleared and everything is hauled off. It's heavy work we do, so it's hard to leave it perfect, but we do try to leave it better than how we found it. What you can expect is all the brush hauled off, and then the twigs and leaves raked up behind it.
Our process

How We Remove

Tree removals have a different goal

Since the goal of a tree removal is not the continued health of the tree, the focus becomes how to most efficiently remove the tree and all the material from your property with the minimal amount of upheaval. In the most difficult of situations, that means avoiding service lines, fences, sheds, and even houses.

Counting the costs for tree removal

You can rest easy knowing that every free estimate takes into account all the information with the intention of providing a fair and honest price for your job. What that means is that we are taking into account the factors that most move the price:
  • The size and location of the trees
  • How many obstacles we are working around
  • Tools and equipment needed to effectively finish the job

Equipment necessary for a job well done

Battlefield’s residential lots don’t leave much margin for error. We use a variety of equipment, from smaller bucket trucks that can get into a tight spot to cranes that help us remove that tree in an impossible spot.

Nothing left behind

Our default approach is to remove everything, including the wood, the brush, and all the debris. Of course, if you're interested in firewood, you can even save a little bit by requesting to keep the wood. Once all that's out of the way, then you get to decide whether you want the stump ground down right away, which is the most cost-effective way to approach it. We’ll fill the hole left with soil or chips on request.

Why Are My Tree’s Roots Coming Up?

Roots that snake out visibly over the lawn are a pretty common (and annoying) problem in Southwest Missouri. And while the type of tree plays a part, it's the soil that makes the most difference in this area.

There are two common causes, and one of them is almost unavoidable in Battlefield's shallow, rocky ground. In this area, we stick a spade in the ground, and it hits rock within 2 inches. From my experience, I'd say a pickaxe is our spade of choice. With soil that rocky, the roots tend to take the direction of least resistance.

The second reason is soil compaction. Any tree that's next to frequent and/or heavy-weight traffic presses the air out of the soil and makes it less attractive for the roots to grow toward, as it has less air and less water. New subdivisions going in beside older acreage make compaction from construction and increased usage quite common in the greater Springfield area.

What isn't recommended is to cut or grind exposed roots around a tree, as tempting as it may be. These roots are what provide the nutrients for the tree, and cutting them can cause the tree to die out or destabilize it. If you're having trouble with your roots, invite our arborist out to take a look.

What customers across our SW Missouri service area say

“They cut down a huge, diseased tree in my backyard that had branches overhanging my roof. Very carefully they used ropes, a variety of electric saws, and a cherry-picker crane to remove the major branches one by one without causing any damage to my house.”

Fifteen Minutes Away, Not a Special Trip

Trufast is based in Springfield, about fifteen minutes from Battlefield — one of the closest drives in our whole coverage area. Battlefield is one of the 17 southwest Missouri communities we cover, and one of the ones our crews are in most often, so an estimate here doesn’t turn into a scheduling problem.

Trufast stays owner-operated — no dispatcher hand-off, no subcontractor swap. Our ISA Certified Arborist is on staff for the calls that need a trained eye rather than just a saw.

Raised and thinned

A big front-yard tree lifted and thinned so the house, windows and walk show again. It is still a full, healthy shade tree.

Named for a Battle, Built on Rocky Ground

Battlefield is situated right at Springfield’s southwestern edge. If one doesn't know where Springfield ends and where Battlefield begins, it's easy to move from one to the next without even realizing it. More about the town and area below.

How Battlefield got its name

Battlefield gets its name from the Civil War battle called Wilson’s Creek. This battle was the first major Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi. The town has the same Ozark plateau geology as the rest of Greene County: thin, rocky topsoil. This type of soil (if you can call it soil) is part of why root systems around here tend to run wide and shallow rather than deep.

Older acreage next to new subdivisions

Battlefield sits quite close to Springfield and residential growth has picked up in recent years. This has caused several new subdivisions to go in alongside older neighborhoods. But Battlefield still has some established acreage that still carries the feel of the open country this area used to be not so long ago, with a lot of oak and hickory.

On the Trail of Tears route

In December 1838, Cherokee families forced west on the Trail of Tears passed through this part of Greene County, crossing from Strafford southwest toward the ground that is now the town of Battlefield. Pieces of that route are still marked today as part of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.

Fifteen minutes, not a special trip

Battlefield sits right near the middle of our service area which extends beyond it to the towns that are further away. It's a quick 15 minutes from our main yard where we keep our equipment, down 65 and west on 60.

What goes into an estimate

All estimates are in-person and on-site because it has shown over the years to be so very difficult to make sure we are in agreement about what it is to do without walking through the property and talking with our customers. In that walkthrough, we will be listing how many trees there are that need some sort of service, whether trimming or removal, and how many obstacles we have to work around, like power lines or fencing. The size of the tree, how much we're doing to every tree, how much wood has to be removed, and how difficult it is to move the brush and wood out of the property all play a part in the ultimate estimate.

Questions

Tree service in Battlefield, answered.

Are you insured for tree work in Battlefield?
Yes. Trufast carries a $5M liability tower ($1M general liability + $4M umbrella), plus commercial auto and workers’ compensation. That coverage protects your property, not just our crew — we’re happy to share certificates before work starts.
How far is Battlefield from your shop, and do you serve it regularly?
About 15 minutes. Battlefield is inside our core service area, so scheduling here runs on the same timeline as Springfield itself — typically 2-3 weeks out for non-emergency work.
Do you handle storm-damaged or hazardous trees in Battlefield?
Yes. Call (417) 413-4729 anytime for storm damage or a hazardous leaner. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible — usually the next morning, not the middle of the night — and emergency work gets priority once we connect.
How much does tree removal or trimming cost in Battlefield?
Every tree is different — size, species, location, and access all affect price. We say that pricing starts in the low hundreds and goes into the thousands, but we know that isn't very helpful. And this is exactly why we give a free on-site estimate before any work starts.

Ready for a free estimate in Battlefield?
